CHARLIE ALLEN RENOVATIONS
ANNOUNCES SUPPORT
OF CAMBRIDGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
CAMBRIDGE, MA [September 15, 2016] – Cambridge-based Charlie Allen Renovations (www.charlie-allen.com), a long time supporter of the Cambridge Historical Society (CHS), is pleased to announce its financial support of the CHS’ inaugural Cambridge History Fellows program. The company’s $1500 gift will fund research by 2016 History Fellow Donna Karl.
The History Fellows program, for which Cambridge residents will apply each year to research topics related to an annual theme, is one of several new initiatives established by CHS Executive Director Marieke Van Damme. This year’s theme, titled “Are We Home?” focuses on housing concerns, a theme that informs several other new programs announced by the CHS, including a series of ‘History Cafés,” community discussions held at area restaurants, bars, and coffee houses, and an annual symposium.
Charlie Allen, founder of Charlie Allen Renovations, is currently serving as CHS vice president and has held other leadership positions with the organization in the past, including president. Allen also led a recent effort to restore the CHS’ historic headquarters, the Hooper Lee Nichols House, built in 1685.
“The legacy of Cambridge history continues to impact our daily lives, including the kind of houses we live in and our shared streetscapes. The many initiatives that Marieke has established elevate our shared history and give it an important role in addressing modern day issues. We’re thrilled to provide our support,” says Allen.
