Providing safe wood burning

The key to safe wood burning in any home is a proper flue liner. The highest quality and longest lasting is a cast-in-place masonry liner. Our poured flue lining system is a unique chimney lining process ideally suited to reline and restore old, damaged, or worn out chimney flues.

Charlie Allen Restorations uses SolidFlue Systems, Inc. lining mix. SolidFlue is the original cast-in-place masonry chimney lining system brought over from England in 1979. It provides a lifetime product warranty and is the only patented mix on the market today because it contains micro silica – a water-repelling component. SolidFlue is tested and listed to the UL standards for zero clearance to combustibles.

Gas logs, gas inserts, and heating appliances

We also install stainless steel flue liners to heating appliances and gas fireplace inserts. For your safety we do not install stainless steel liners to wood burning applications as a matter of policy. Many owners want the ambiance of a fire with the convenience of gas. We work with several different suppliers to
offer aesthetically appropriate gas fireplace inserts and gas log options.

Historical masonry

Charlie Allen Restorations routinely restores and recreates original masonry fireplace and chimney details using water struck brick and lime mortar. We also remove, clean and reinstall marble mantels after fabricating code compliant Rumford fireboxes and hearth extensions. You can see and read about our work on several This Old House TV projects and in This Old House magazine, Old House Interiors magazine, and Old House Journal.
